On October 3-5, 2022, St. Petersburg will host the international scientific conference “Peter the Great and the Formation of Russian Science”, which is included in the “Plan of the main events for the preparation and holding of the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the birth of Peter I”.
The conference was organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg State University, the Committee for Science and Higher Education of the Government of St. Petersburg with the participation of the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg Branch of the Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the National Library of Russia, St. Petersburg Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg. On October 3–5, specialists in various fields of knowledge — historians, philologists, linguists, art historians, museologists, cultural scientists, researchers in the history of science — will discuss a wide range of issues related to the formation and development of various branches of science, secular and spiritual education, book publishing, and the expansion of geographical knowledge in Russia of the Petrine Era. Considerable attention will be paid to the creation and early history of the Academy of Sciences and Arts, as well as the impact of Peter the Great’s reforms on Russian science and education.
More than 80 scholars from the largest scientific centers of the Russian Federation – Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Omsk, as well as from the UK, France and Belarus will speak at the plenary and breakout sessions.
